Update 2
New update is out, I want to know what people think of the bigger map option? Does the game flow better with more space to work with? If so I might just make that the official size of the map. I also made difficulty adjustments because the game felt like it spiked in difficulty too early before.
Next update I plan to do a score system, and hopefully more enemy types, to really get the ball rolling on the gameplay.
Patch notes:
-Explosion effect on player death
-Proper start screen
-Game can now be paused with escape
-Game can be restarted at any time with the "`" / tilde key
-Starting enemy count reduced, to prevent early game difficulty spike
-Working sensitivity slider which affects how fast your ship rotates (does not save to file, yet)
-Better, more visually clear sprite for player
-Hitboxes are now picture perfect :)
-Big map mode
Minor:
-Input string optimizations for player inputs
-Shot speed is faster (2300 --> 3000)
-Changed texture filtering in project settings to nearest (makes pixel art sharper, does it look better?)
-Enemy is now slightly bigger to make for an easier to hit target
-Enemy should now rotate more naturally to look at player
-Low graphics mode!
Bugfixes:
-you no longer take damage from unspawned enemies
Files
Get shoot_loop
shoot_loop
shoot_loop is an arcadey space sh'mup with the gimmick of your own shots looping and doing damage to you!

Nice! I think I liked the movement a bit more in the first version (mostly just being able to turn while moving and "drift"), but the new speed coupled with the shorter enemy charge makes it more playable. Still, I miss zipping around almost uncontrollably. Some turn acceleration might make it easier to line up shots, especially on the big map. The sprite are more readable now too. Keep up the good work!
